Privacy Policy

Overview

VinylCheck and VinylRec are designed with your privacy in mind. We collect minimal data and never sell your information to third parties. This policy applies to both apps.

These apps are developed by Intergalactic Robots, an indie app studio by Will Chatham.

Data We Collect

Discogs Account Data

When you sign in with Discogs, we access:

• Your Discogs username
• Your collection (records you own)
• Your wantlist (records you want) - VinylCheck only
• Your collection folders - VinylRec only

This data is stored locally on your device to enable offline functionality. We do not upload your collection data to our servers.

Authentication Tokens

Your Discogs OAuth tokens are stored securely in your device's Keychain. These tokens allow the apps to communicate with Discogs on your behalf.

Camera Access (VinylCheck only)

VinylCheck uses your camera solely to scan barcodes. No images or video are stored or transmitted. Camera access can be revoked at any time in your device settings.

App-Specific Data (VinylRec only)

VinylRec stores additional data locally on your device:

• Your favorites (starred albums)
• Ignored albums (ones you don't want recommended)
• Play history (when you mark albums as played)
• Recommendation history (to avoid repeating recent suggestions)

This data never leaves your device.

Data We Don't Collect

• We do not collect analytics or usage data
• We do not track your location
• We do not use advertising or ad tracking
• We do not share any data with third parties (except Discogs API for core functionality)

Third-Party Services

Both apps connect to the Discogs API to search their database and access your collection. Your use of Discogs data is also subject to the Discogs Privacy Policy.

Data Storage

All data is stored locally on your device:

• Collection and wantlist data is stored in a local database
• Authentication tokens are stored in the iOS Keychain
• User preferences are stored in local app storage
• Play history and favorites (VinylRec) are stored in a local database

You can delete all locally stored data by signing out of your Discogs account in the app settings, or by deleting the app.

Data Security

We use industry-standard security practices:

• OAuth tokens are stored in the iOS Keychain, which provides hardware-level encryption
• All communication with Discogs uses HTTPS encryption
• No sensitive data is transmitted to our servers

Children's Privacy

VinylCheck and VinylRec are not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
